Recruiter notes signs of growth
are sure signs of economic recovery, according to Gary Hammond, Director of the telecoms and VoIP recruitment specialist TTR. He has noted growing demand for telesales, telemarketing, marketing and field sales personnel across the UK within the telecoms and IT sectors. This trend is a big improvement compared to the same period in 2009. “There are signs of growth, albeit cautious and slow at this point, but positive all the same,” he said. “I am confident that while this year will still be tough for many, life should improve for most, and some telcos will really break away as usual.”

Hammond also noted a growing number of enquiries for project managers and field engineers. “This is another positive sign for our industry, suggesting that more equipment and solutions are being sold. I remember the last recession and recognise similar signs of recovery. The only way is up.”
He is equally upbeat about the first anniversary of TTR’s £895 Flat Fee Recruitment service. “Keeping costs down is key, and recruitment fees need to be competitive and in line with client expectations and budgets,” he said. “Many telecoms, mobile comms and IT clients are taking advantage of the flat fee campaigns to attract staff at a fraction of the traditional recruitment

cost. Some of our original and early placements are now managers and directors giving us business.”
Hammond, who has been in recruitment since 1986, believes that flat fee recruitment is the future. However, some clients still prefer the traditional recruitment fee structure and continue to use several agencies for their recruitment. TTR caters for this section of the market with its 10 per cent ‘Fee on success’ scheme.
TTR UK, which was formed in 2001, stands for Telecom Technology Recruitment. The company was set up to provide a dedicated telecoms recruitment service primarily for the distributors and UK-wide resellers who seek industry experienced staff, at any level, in any UK location. This over the years has expanded into other products as resellers have
broadened their portfolios with, for example, data, IT, AV/VC, mobile comms, VoIP, and hosted etc. TTR now has a customer base of 185-plus clients, and services their recruitment needs in telesales, field sales, project managers, technical support and help desk, customer services, field engineers and management. The firm boasts a large telecoms applicant database of 11,000-plus.
Research conducted by TTR showed that nearly all clients questioned had lost staff after paying big agency fees. “I’m trying to soften the blow, reduce the pain of recruiting, maximise the potential of finding the best candidates and help clients recruit more cost-effectively,” explained Hammond. “We currently run at over 90 per cent success rate. This is why some clients are on their 4th/5th/6th campaigns.” n
