Shortly aſter we acquired the Vega Banjo Company we were also able to acquire the rights to the S.S. Stewart banjo name. In our quest to revive the heritage of S.S. Stewart we introduced this Tree of Life model, which is a modern rendition of the old S.S. Stewart banjo that was made for Sears about 1890 as part of their Acme line of banjos. Tis model being the "University Glee" which was the top of the line. We believe the S.S. Stewart "University Glee" model to be the most beautiful tree of life design ever done on a banjo. However, we did modify it and embelish it somewhat. Te original peghead inlays did not flow with the fingerboard so I designed new inlays for the peghead that flow with the beautiful Tree of Life fingerboard.
Another embellishment we have added to this beautiful Tree of Life is the use of Sterling Silver for the vine rather than the pewter used on the old “University Glee” model. With this beautiful banjo you get precious metal rather than tin and zinc. To put this into perspective, the silver in this banjo fingerboard and peghead alone, cost more than the entire material cost of the Sierra banjo adding substantially to the value of this banjo.
Tis beautiful banjo also has ivoroid binding with abalone trim and a triple bound peghead which adds luster to the already elegant Tree of Life inlays. Te banjo is topped off with hand engraved metal parts and a pierced armrest with high quality 24 karat gold plating. Te Tree of Life banjo has our premium violin grade maple rim, -06- tone ring, and comes standard with high grade curly maple for the neck and resonator.

Tone: Te Tree of Life has a smaller air chamber than the Golden Era or the Tenbrooks banjos which gives it a very responsive poppy sound with excellent note separation. Te banjo plays string to string and up the neck at a consistent clarity and volume. Te Maple construction creates a bright tone with excellent bass.
