Artist Series

Artists who play a Deering do so for no other reason than because they love to play a Deering. Tey love the neck. Tey love the build quality. Tey love the tone. Over the years, Deering has had the unique pleasure of working alongside some of the worlds greatest musicians and it is an absolute honor and privilege whenever we see one of our banjos on stage or in a music video.

Deering is grateful to all of the artists who play our instruments and for the support that they have displayed over the years and for that, Deering would like to present the new “Artist Series” - a collection of collaborations with a select few artists that we have worked with over the years. And as more and more artists are using our banjos in a variety of different ways, you can expect to see more additions to this series!

David Holt with his Deering David Holt Model Banjo

About the David Holt Model Consummate story teller and Grammy award-winner, David Holt has been playing a Deering banjo since 1988. An openback banjo with a deeper 4” rim, to create the depth of sound of a minstrel banjo., this banjo is lighter weight because it has the Hartord grenadillo wood tone ring and no flange or resonator so it is easy to perform with for hours. Te deep 3-ply violin grade maple rim and grenadillo wood tone ring creates a warmth and richness all it’s own.

In 1988 Greg Deering and David Holt teamed up to create David’s dream banjo. During hours of discussion and sharing their joys of music, Greg and David came up with the unique David Holt Tree of Life banjo.

It has a beautiful curly maple neck stained to a rich warm brown. Te rim is bound with decorative purfling and ivoroid binding. Te metal parts are plated with durable chrome plating that will keep a brand new appearance for years to come. Te gorgeous Tree of Life inlay is sterling silver with mother of pearl flowers and abalone leaves.
