About
and the Future of the Industry

We asked our readers what they thought of the CHA show this year. What surprised
us most was how many told us they did not attend. Readers like Deidra Luquette-
Famularo, Scrappersaurus Scrapbook Services and Supply, LLC. did not attend as she
was busy closing her last New Orleans store, opting for an e-Commerce site instead.
Four years after Hurricane Katrina, her area is still greatly impacted by hurricanes as
well as the current economy. “I was very sad not to be able to attend CHA and find new
and unusual products, but that may be a thing of the past for a while,” she said. And she
was not alone. We heard from numerous independent retailers who did not attend.
Fewer Attendees, Fewer Vendors
For many who answered our survey, location, financing and timing just didn’t make
attending the show a viable option. The much smaller show size got mixed reviews.
“It was the smallest show ever,“ said Rhonda Hilburn, owner
“It was the chance to have

meaningful conversations with
we live here or it would not have been worth the trip.” Patty

Stolzenfeld, owner of Live, Laugh, Love & Scrap in Oxford,
MI, reported she was “most surprised at how many vendors
otherwise taken place at a busy,
did not show up at the show.” Director of Marketing at web-

the show was “incredibly small and a lot of the larger vendors
sales consultant were not present.” He also noticed that “media companies and
Grafika in Sinking Spring, PA
the like were not present.”
