2009
Wednesday 2nd – Advent Sunday and International Day for the
Abolition of Slavery
27 million people across the world are enslaved today; so we pray fervently
for world leaders, for governments and for individuals to unite with one voice
to end this oppression in its most secret and pernicious forms – be it in the
home, at school, at work, in prison or in the church.
Thursday 3rd – International Day of Disabled Persons
Consider the many different kinds of disability that exist, and especially that
disability of our own hearts which prevents us from seeing our neighbour as
a gift from God. Help us to transform ourselves rather than to see others in
need of change.
Friday 4th
Advent is the time in our Christian liturgy that awaits Christ’s birth with
eagerness and with hope. Let us make time this Advent to cherish the Christ-
child, to stop and be still; to centre our hearts on God and not just on our
Christmas duties.
Saturday 5th
Jesus will soon be born in a stable. Let us use this precious time to sweep
out the corners of our hearts; let us make the households of our souls
ready and welcoming for his birth.
