Do not model your behaviour on the contemporary world, but let the
e
renewing of your minds transform you, so that you may discern for m
yourselves what is the will of God – what is good, acceptable and mature.

Monday 7th
2009
Pray for all children starting school for the first time this month; that they will feel
safe and secure in their new environment and excited by the new experiences
ahead of them.
Tuesday 8th –International Literacy Day
We pray for Mothers’ Union Literacy and Development Programmes in Africa.
Reading, writing and numeracy skills also equip families to share expertise,
resolve conflicts, participate in initiatives and set up small businesses. May
these programmes continue to transform communities positively.
Wednesday 9th
Over two-thirds of the world's 785 million illiterate adults are found in only eight
countries (India, China, Bangladesh, Pakistan, Nigeria, Ethiopia, Indonesia and
Egypt). May world leaders collaborate in their efforts to value the development of
all people and enable all countries to provide equal access to free education.
Thursday 10th
In the UK, new policy developments and ideas mean that education is in
constant flux. Ask God to grant discernment to policy-makers and pray that
students and teachers will be creatively involved in the planning and
implementation of changes.
Friday 11th
Lord we pray for children who are deprived, excluded or who have special needs.
We pray for the schools which have charge over them: give them guidance and
help them to recognise their individual strengths, providing environments where
they are safe and understood.
Saturday 12th
Father, we give thanks for the commitment and strength of teachers,
lecturers and classroom assistants. We pray that with your guidance they
will have the energy to teach, the creativity to excite and the power to
motivate.
