Race to Be Trump’s Running Mate

tial primary in February, Donald Trump seems certain to be the GOP nominee for a rematch with Joe Biden. Polls show the former president with double-digit leads over all his

Republican rivals and several sur- veys put him ahead of Biden in a general election. So, it’s no surprise that specula-
tion is mounting over whom the for- mer president will choose as his run- ning mate. Most analysts believe Trump will
choose a woman or a minority. It’s a foregone conclusion he would never

minority leader), U.S. representative, and now in her second term in the governor’s of ice, Noem is a magnetic personality who can discuss issues ranging from energy independence to how the states can deal with China. Her personal story is, as Trump
would say, “right out of central casting.” She quit college in 1994 to take over the family farm after her father was killed in a farm machinery accident, had three
children, and earned a degree while in Congress in 2012. Noem recently endorsed Trump
for president and Trump clearly likes her. If there is any stumbling block she faces, it is the report in the Daily Mail this fall that the governor — 52, married, a mother and grandmother — and Trump adviser Corey Lewandowski have been having a years-long aff air. Neither denied the story but Noem dismissed it as “so predictable” since it came out days after she endorsed Trump.
