accepted” in the 2000s by both Repub- licans and Democrats. “All of a sudden, COVID comes

along, and we are sending mail-in bal- lots to everyone on file,” he said. In Georgia, he said the massive

increase in mail-in ballots totally “overwhelmed” the system as election officials had to figure out how to verify the ballots. He noted that with a mail-in bal-

lot, it is “extremely difficult to moni- tor” because it is nearly impossible to know with certainty who completed the ballot. As more states increased mail-in

ballots and permitted other contro- versial election methods, including ballot harvesting and drop-off boxes, he said the changes became “gravely concerning.” “This is not an issue that can be

swept under the rug,” he said. “This is not something we can pretend is going to fix itself.” While some states are still “embrac-

ing” these controversial practices, Hice said the “silver lining” is that dozens of other states have made “sig- nificant strides” through various leg- islative packages to “defend, protect, and secure elections.” “It indicates we have a movement underway nationally that recognizes we can’t compromise this issue,” he said. If voters lose confidence that their

vote matters, he warns “our entire system” of government “begins to collapse.” He writes that an “overwhelm-

ing majority of people can accept the outcome of an election (though they might be deeply disappointed if their candidate loses), but no one should be willing to accept an unfair voting system.”

‘Integrity Matters, in All Areas of Life’

P

lease do not misunderstand me, most definitely I am not

trying to set myself up as a standard for integrity. The reality is that I am keenly aware of my personal flaws and shortcomings. Nonetheless, having surrendered

my life to Christ at the age of 13 and having actively nurtured and developed that relationship over the years, I am aware of the transformation that He has produced. With all my shortcomings and

failures, there is no question that I am a better man today than I was 10 years ago, or 20, 30, 50 years ago. I have a deeply abiding and authentic belief in right and wrong, good and evil, and that one day we will all stand before the Almighty and give an account for our lives. These are not merely words to

me; I sincerely believe this with every ounce of my being and try to live accordingly. Unfortunately, one of the biggest

complaints and the most frequent judgments people express to me concerning the Washington, D.C., culture is, “It’s just a big immoral swamp, filled with self-centered and crooked people.” What a horrible description for

citizens to possess regarding those who are representing our country. But this attitude is not simply

aimed toward representatives in Washington, D.C.; it is the prevailing attitude toward those in local and state governments as well. And the sentiment goes beyond

elected oficials to include those serving in the judicial branch, the executive branch, and multiple agencies, be it at the federal, state, or local level. Regrettably, these feelings also

spill over into the private sector, too. It seems that we have basically

become a nation of individuals who are self-absorbed and morally tainted. And worse, it seems as though we have accepted those attributes as the new “normal.” It’s sad that we have so easily

forsaken fundamental principles that form a civil society. Things that once were commonly acknowledged, like the Golden Rule, which says, “Do unto others as you would have them do unto you,” have essentially been forgotten or replaced. When integrity is missing, nothing

good can ultimately result, and everyone suffers the consequences. This is especially alarming when it shrouds an entire society, as its destructive influence infects the current as well as future generations. When a culture normalizes or

tolerates the lack of morality, it is virtually impossible to reverse.
