first attracted Executive Producer Jamie Campbell to the idea when he read the first script by the series’ creator Laurie Nunn – that and the range of characters and stories which together underpin what he calls the “novelistic aspects” of Nunn’s writing. “Tonally, when you are developing a show, you don’t start out thinking ‘We’ll


push the comedy to make the themes more palatable’,” he observes. “The comedy that was in it – and still is – set the tone for everything from the get-go because it came from Laurie’s register, not by synthetic design.”
