Netflix film, David Attenborough: A Life On Our Planet, won the 2021 Televisual Bulldog Best In Show award after it garnered a higher number of winning votes than any other show in any other category
Every year in the Televisual Bulldog Awards, one show is given, along with the award for its individual category or categories, the Best in Show Award. The Best in Show Awards goes to the
programme that wins its category with a higher vote than any other. In the 2021 Televisual Bulldog Awards,
the one show that seemed to capture the imagination of its industry peers above all others was David Attenborough: A Life on Our Planet. Televisual’s readers voted in their droves for the film that was first shown as a theatrical release before its Netflix release in October last year. The film, produced by Silverback and the
WWF for Netflix, is something of a departure for the 95-year-old broadcaster who has been such a permanent, towering but also soothing figure for the global audience for so many decades.
While much of Attenborough’s career
has focused on showing us the wonder of the natural world, the film was billed as Attenborough’s witness statement to the natural world and detailed not just his life in filmmaking but hammered home the destructive force of humans on the planet, the urgency of the need for change in order to save the world - and his vision for that change. Films and joint director said: “The world is suddenly asking really, really deep questions about this issue of the future of the planet, one that has come to a head with COP26. I think it just hit that moment where people wanted to know more.” “All of us in the media who have worked
