LIVE PRODUCTION

A staggering 20.6 million tuned in to catch the famous victory with a further 6.5 million live streams online taking the total viewing figure beyond 27 million.

Behind the scenes, though, the BBC team had to work hard to deliver the match. Bigwood has led coverage of major football competitions for the BBC since 2002, but this was ‘undoubtedly the most difficult event I have ever worked on’, he says. Covid-19 safety

protocols were front of mind throughout the planning for the event, particularly around testing and social distancing.

The BBC Sport team had to juggle

producing coverage from 11 different venues for Euro 2020 – ranging from Baku and Bucharest through to Glasgow, London, Munich, Rome, Seville and St Petersburg. With international travel largely prohibited,

And then to get a game and a programme like that and to defeat our biggest rivals, probably other than Scotland, was incredible.” “It was definitely a night to remember.

It was great driving away from Wembley afterwards. It had been a good clean programme and England had gone on. It was amazing.”
