PRODUCT FEATURE Dual Branding

MAP’s rod offerings have expanded this year with the introduction of DUAL, the brand’s mid-priced range – T&G takes a closer look…

T

he DUAL range fi rst surfaced a few years ago in the form of luggage and accessories but this year MAP has introduced a group of rods for this mid-priced sub-brand. Initially the range looks simple – a collection of feeder and fl oat rods – but like its more expensive stablemate, Parabolix, look closer and you see that DUAL offers some really particular rods for specifi c needs. A pair of bomb rods – in 9ft and 10ft lengths – start

off the range with 11ft and 12ft feeder rods the next step up. The bomb rods feature a shorter handle, for the obvious reason that they’re designed for short range where a long handle is required for leverage, and the two feeder rods sport more power through the mid-section for slightly larger feeders or when bigger fi sh are encountered. The two fl oat rods in the range measure in at 11ft and 12ft and are aimed primarily at commercial fi shing where pellet waggler fi shing is the norm.

There’s also a 12ft 9in Distance feeder rod. This caught a lot of people’s attention at launch, mainly because it bucks the obvious commercial fi shery bias of DUAL, and offers a tool for anglers who need big power for big casts. With a growing number of feeder-only events on larger waters, it makes sense for MAP to get ‘on trend’. Feature-wise the range has some nice cosmetic and functional touches. All rods have a mix of cork and EVA handle with the DUAL logo embossed into the

butt - very tasteful indeed – with subtle blue and white graphics and whippings giving them a look that belies their affordable price tag. Oversized guides on quiver tips is a nice feature to improve casting and on the distance model, these guides adorn the whole blank, again to aid casting but also to help when using shock leaders, as is the fashion on long-chuck venues. RRP prices for the

range start at just £99.99 for the 11ft waggler, topping out at £159.99 for the distance feeder.
