Positive trial results A study carried out by Diamond V on commercial Lohmann Brown layers showed an improvement on performance and egg quality. Performance from 21 to 74 weeks of age were compered in two groups of 576 hens in the same laying house. Each group of birds had 24 replicates. The control group was fed a basal diet and the other received


this diet plus 1.25kg/tonne of XPC™. Performance was measured in three stages, each 126 days in duration. The first was start of lay from week 21 to week 38, the mid lay from week 39 to week 56, and finally the end of lay from week 57 to week 74. Results showed higher egg numbers in the mid- and end-of-lay


periods and improved feed conversion in the end-of-lay period. Egg quality, measured as static stiffness, improved where XPC™ was fed in all three stages. More extensive trials using Diamond XPC™ in layer and breeder


diets have been carried out and confirm the positive results shown in earlier trials. Performance in key areas was compared between birds fed on


a control diet and those fed the same diet with Diamond V XPC™ added, as shown in Figure 2.


Layer improvements Feed conversion rate improved in 17 out of 24 trials where Diamond V XPC™ was included in the diet of layer birds. This was measured as the ratio of weight of feed to weight of egg produced. Overall, there was an improvement in feed conversion rate of 5% Egg production improved in 27 out of 31 trials, representing a 1.9% increase in egg production. Results showed an improvement in livability in 19 out of 28 trials, representing a 14.9% reduction in bird mortality.

and bird health. Also, eight commercial field trials with layers, using high and low feed costs, evaluated the economics and found XPC™ to be cost-effective.

Boost in breeder performance Commercial field trials in breeder flocks showed similar positive results with a clear link between breeder health and performance when birds were fed diets that included the feed product Diamond V XPC™ compared with birds fed a control diet. These results are shown in Figure 3. A total of 18,000 hens were placed in two treatment groups and


production data was collected from 26 to 65 weeks of age. There was a significant improvement in eggs per hen housed of


4.1, from 189.0 eggs to 193.1 eggs. This field trial also showed an increase in hatching eggs per
