respect that his food is his ART you know? You can be sure your crew food will suffer when the boss is on because he cannot be rushed when delivering his latest masterpiece. Don’t you DARE question him or ask him to hurry it along either or you might get Gordon Ramsay’d in the face. The captain’s terrified of him. Even the boss is scared of him. Some may say “he’s really quite sweet, he’s just passionate....” But we all know the truth! Approach with caution when he’s in his element. Also, when it hits the fan… hide the knives.
WHAT’S HOT...
THE US AND CARIBBEAN is hot hot hot this winter season, crew have been reporting an abundance of great jobs with good pay and conditions over there, which has left the Med yachts meagre offerings in the dust. They’d better catch up quickly or when the Med season rolls around (oh it’s coming!) they won’t have any crew keen to take on the jobs over here.
BIG SHOWS Despite the ongoing sanctions
affecting the Russian side of the superyacht market, yacht sales and revenue generated from the big shows like Monaco and Florida are still high, despite not being quite as high as 2022. With the number of billionaires increasing every year, this is one industry that doesn’t seem to be quite as affected as others by the cost of living crisis.
HITTING THE RIGHT NOTE Speaking of new billionaires, big shout out to Taylor Swift! She’s the 15th celebrity in Forbes’ rankings to achieve this financial status. Mainly due to her ‘Eras Tour’ grossing over $1 billion - rock on Taylor!

NAUTICAL HEROES ALAN BOND
Alan Bond (22 April 1938 – 5 June 2015) was an English-born Australian businessman noted for his high-profile and often corrupt business dealings. He is also remembered for bankrolling the successful challenge for the 1983 America’s Cup, the first time the New York Yacht Club had lost it in its 132-year history, thus breaking the longest winning streak in the history of any sport. Australia II came from behind to prevail four races to three. The victory on 26 September 1983 was a landmark event for the nation of Australia.
EASY STYLE You know, it’s hard to be fashionable when you live in crew uniform 18 hours of most days, and also have to squish your entire life into one (soft, collapsible) suitcase. So what are most crew wearing when they’re off the boat? Apparently anything that doesn’t need ironing and can be thrown on in a hurry. Fashion kinda goes out the window when you’ve got one night off in months but it’s a good thing to spend our end of season charter tips on.

SWIPE LEFT Is the art of dating dead? It seems the only way to meet someone is online. But how’s that working out for them when they’re quite literally like ships passing in the night? Some report it’s like an endless slog of swiping, recycling the chat, and ghosting. Unless of course you just fancy a hook up, that’s easy enough to arrange!
DIY What is it with management companies stopping crew from using agents this summer? You’ve got a 12 hour turnaround between guests but the interior crew have to do all their own ordering and get out to shop whilst also stripping cabins, detailing and everything else in between? Because going straight into a charter completely knackered always works out well…
THE PAY GAP Salaries in the Med continue to stay lower than in the USA/Caribbean. Unsurprisingly, crew are hot footing it to where the action (and the better packages) are. Everyone’s moaning about lack of longevity but why should the crew stay if they’re not being looked after financially? We don’t do this job for love (anymore). Pay us.
