Cramer has a tool for many groundscare applications. UK Distributors Handy has signed up 23 new dealers this year alone. Remaining Grounded

Groundscare remains buoyant as we move out of the pandemic. Dan Jenkins reports on a thriving sector that is brimming with new technology.

A

strong sign of vitality in any sector is new market entrants and this is evident

in groundscare. Equipment distributor Handy has reinforced its partnership with manufacturer Cramer Tools, in a move to more aggressively push Cramer products in the UK.

This enhanced partnership is driven by growing demand for battery-powered tools and machinery, which is Cramer’s specialism. Cramer’s modular concept enables the use of an 82V battery pack in all products, including lawnmowers, chainsaws, pole saws, hedge trimmers, leaf blowers, and power cutters.

Mark Moseley, Handy sales and marketing director, said: “To facilitate the new partnership, we have set up a new team dedicated to the Cramer professional range. So far, the interest in Cramer has been very positive - it's still early days, but already this year, we have signed up 23 new Cramer Dealers across the UK.”

Brian Pattle, who is part of this Cramer business development team, added: “We are investing significantly in growing the Cramer brand. We believe the time is right, so we are actively recruiting dealers, looking to put more dots in the map in a structured and strategic way.”

Handy is supporting this drive with extended warranties on the battery packs. “We have some industry-leading warranties on the battery packs, which helps give further confidence in the brand,” said Pattle. “I don’t think anyone else is offering up to 10-year warranties.”

Meanwhile, Toro has also done well this year with its Z Master zero-turn mowers along with the Grandstand range of stand-on mowers. “Zero turn

is one of the few parts of the market that has

experienced year-on-year growth,” said Matt Coleman, sales manager at Toro. “Awareness has grown about how zero turn is far more productive and fuel efficient, which in turn has increased sales.”

For stand-on mowers, increased demand is about safety and convenience. “Ride-on mowers can be a hassle as they need to be towed to site on a trailer,” said Coleman. “Contractors and local authorities are moving away from trailers wherever possible, as they often use seasonal staff who might be inexperienced at towing trailers.

“Our Grandstand 48-inch model is designed to fit between the wheel arches in the back of a van, so no trailer is required. That lends itself very well to the hire market as ultimately you want mowers that the customer can come and collect themselves.”

Innovative products

Another welcome sign is increased innovation in the sector. Toro is preparing to officially launch its Revolution series of commercial all-electric mowers, based on its proprietary 60V HyperCell battery pack.

“We think this is the first of its kind as we
