Focus on Womenswear In the corporate world

Here, Lucy Woodward, marketing and development manager, at Disley provides an overview of how womenswear has changed in the corporate world in recent years.

In the blouse world there have been significant changes in recent years, not just from an aesthetic point of view with colours and shapes changing, but also on the technical side. The fit of garments is continually evolving in order to keep pace with changes in body shapes.

The component parts are changing, such as softer collar fusings to increase wearer comfort. Fabrics themselves have developed hugely, from the increase in prevalence of elastane content, to give stretch and ease of wear, to developments in digital printing techniques, allowing greater flexibility, accuracy and complexity of design. Last year, demand was all about choice. Having co-ordinating items that allowed wearers to express their individuality, while still retaining a co-ordinated look – for example the Catriona and Ava print blouses – the same prints, in the same colours, in two different styles. For this year, we see that demand for choice continuing. We are also expecting an increased demand for certain niche products like ladies pilot shirts. In the past wearers may have had to be content with a menʼs shirt, but they can now benefit from ladies fit shirts, that offer true feminine styling, while retaining the necessary image and functionality. Disley will be launching an improved ladies fit pilot shirt mid-June.

There is an advantage to having clothes that are more gender neutral, but this doesn’t mean they should totally replace clothes for girls and clothes for boys.

Trends to look out for

What colours and styles are going to be big in womenswear in the coming months?

Customers need choice in styles, but also in the colours. This is why for example in 2019 we have added a lot of new on-trend soft colours in our range. For example the SOLʼS REGENT FIT WOMEN 02758 T shirt now exists in heather sky and heather pink, the SOLʼS MELBA 01406 fashionable T shirt in creamy pink, and the SOLʼS PERFECT WOMEN 11347 polo in creamy blue and creamy pink. Even the SOLʼS SOHO 72600 travel bag exists in creamy pink! These soft colours are modern and attractive at the same time, and follow some of the biggest spring 2019 trends of the retail industry. – Laura Vesalainen, international marketing project manager, SOLʼS

Based upon looks from the catwalk, I predict bold colours, neon, military green and neutral tones to be more prevalent in womenswear this year. Neon is a big trend for 2019. Utility wear, military green and neutral tones, such as beige, also made an appearance on the catwalks.

etraders play a big part in the evolution of womenswear, taking inspiration from fashion, catwalks and retail trends. The way the market has changed reflects the expectations women have from clothing: a better fit to flatter, even if that means a higher price. – Karen Sutton, business development regional manager, PenCarrie
