Park Profile
In a league of its own When asked what sets Peppa Pig Theme Park apart from all others, Jackson does not hesitate. “From the very beginning we knew this park would be built for all kids,” he explains, “The park earned the designation as a certified autism centre. Everything from ride accessibility to wider aisles through the splash play pad, to sensory signage were all thought through to help parents provide a seamless experience for children of all abilities.” Unique signs throughout the entire park are a
part of an independent audit that assessed each space and attraction across all five senses – sight, touch, taste, smell, and sound. From there, the signs help to identify what senses each area and attraction may invoke a high response. “For some, audio triggers can be scary. For
others, bright and flashing lights may affect visual triggers,” explained Kelly Hornick, head of marketing, Peppa Pig Theme Park. “We also know touch can trigger soothing feelings. The signs are just one part to help parents understand what areas will best suit their children’s ability and interests.” The International Board of Credentialing and
Continuing Education Standards (IBCCES) set the criteria the park had to meet to earn its certification. “The training programme our employees have
gone through is the key to earning this important designation,” Jackson continued, “The training helps our team understand how best to engage and interact with families with an autistic child. LEGOLAND Florida Resort has always been known as a destination build for kids and we’ve done that very well at the existing park and resorts. As Peppa’s park was coming together, the goal of being accessible to guests of all abilities gave us a renewed focus. Now, we are a place for all kids. Making memories, sharing moments, these are experiences that should not be limited.” All information is also provided in a printed
guide and listed on the park’s website to aid in preplanning, highlighting every attraction by which of the five senses it impacts. The park also has a “Hero Access Pass” program for families with members who experience difficultly standing or waiting in long lines. Upon entering the park, the Pass, and details how to use it, can be picked up at Guest Services. Attendees at IAAPA Expo 2021 in Orlando,
Florida will remember the park unveiled Peppa’s Balloon Ride – a family attraction that includes two rider baskets with widened doorways that allow for roll-on wheelchair access. A second seat also ensures the child does not have to ride alone and can enjoy potentially their first-ever e theme park ride, with a parent, sibling, or best friend. To make the high-flying dream ride a reality, the park worked closely with ride manufacturers at Technical Park to adapt the family attraction.
