Water, water everywhere A brand-new indoor waterpark, Tropic Falls at OWA, opened in Foley, Alabama bringing versatile year-round water fun. The first indoor water park in the United States with a retractable wall and roof, the 100,000-square-foot facility includes 75-foot-tall slides, a lazy river, and a children’s play structure with five slides. Planned outdoor water attractions for 2023 include 30,000-square-foot wave pool, surf simulator. Also in Alabama, the 12-acre
WildWater Cullman, opened in June. Complete with a 22,000 square foot wave pool, 18 waterslides, a dedicated water play zone for toddlers and a lazy river. Designed and built by Aquatic Development Group (ADG), the wave pool features a 45 Foot LED wall, and guests can seek shade and relax in cabanas and under giant Funbrellas.
Unique and happily terrifying,
Whitewater brought North America’s first and only rotating water slide, Medusa’s SlideWheel, to Mt. Olympus Water and Theme Park in Wisconsin. Combining the speed of a water slide with the movement of a Ferris wheel, SlideWheel has 443 feet (135 metres) of slide, wrapped up in a knot. water parks - Adventure Island, Aquatica Orlando and Aquatica San Antonio - opened new and reimagined water slides, adding new ways to enhance the overall guest experience. Adventure Island in Tampa, Florida added Rapids Racer and Wahoo Remix, along with the announcement the park would operate year-round. The Rapids Racer two- person raft features nearly 600 feet of slide, while Wahoo Remix, formerly Wahoo Run, features a mix of light and sound effects providing a multi-sensory slide experience. Reef Plunge, Aquatica Orlando’s all- new water slide, sends riders sliding
through over 330 feet of fibreglass, past many of the park’s marine animals in their underwater habitat. Sister park Aquatica San Antonio added a dueling pipeline water slide, Riptide Race. A race between two sets of rafts, takes guests through turns, drops and accelerations down nearly 565 feet (172 metres) of slide. 864 feet of fully enclosed twisting tube
came to Water Country USA in Williamsburg, Virginia with the reimagining of a park favorite. Aquazoid Amped evolved into an immersive waterslide experience, complete with lights, music, and a special effects show. In addition, the brand-new Lil’ Surfers Splash Pad kids’ water play area opened in June, complete with fountains, spray cannons, and a kiddie water slide. Three Palace Entertainment parks -
Raging Waters Los Angeles in California, Sandcastle Waterpark in Pennsylvania, and Wet’n’Wild Emerald Pointe in North Carolina debuted new high-thrill body slide Whitewater Aqua Loops. Each named Bombs Away, the attractions splashed to life and give riders the chance to pick between a straight-speed six-storey, 70-degree drop, or a twisting, turning loop through a closed-tube.

What’s next With 2022 bringing smiles and success to parks in North America, the end of the year also sets the stage to share what’s next. At press time, more than 15 new roller coasters have been announced for 2023, including Canada’s fastest launch coaster from Zamperla, Dollywood’s Big Bear Mountain from Vekoma, and Hersheypark’s Wildcat’s Revenge, a Rocky Mountain Construction (RMC) conversion with 82-degree first drop and a top speed of 62 mph.
