MARKET REPORT: NORTH AMERICA
4D dark ride Volkanu Quest for the Golden Idol
park, Sesame Street San Diego opened to guests in March. The 17-acre park has 18 Sesame Street-themed rides, a musical play area, a 500,000-gallon wave pool, Big Bird’s Rambling River lazy river, and an interactive area that fully recreates the memorable Sesame Street Neighborhood. Daily character meet-and-greets, live shows and parades fill the day, as well as the opportunity to sit on the famous 123 Sesame Street stoop. Year-round special events such as A
Very Furry Christmas, Elmo’s Springtacular, and The Count’s Halloween Spooktacular, fill the calendar for kids and parents, ensuring the whimsy and delightful spirit of
the television show come to life daily at the new park. While young park goers are the focus
of Sesame Street San Diego and Peppa Pig Theme Park, the Bertch family in Waterloo, Iowa was inspired by their water park guests to add a second gate with the opening of the Lost Island Themepark. Five unique realms make up the Lost
Island Themepark, and each with its own distinct architecture, culture, and characters. The park’s signature attraction, fully enclosed in a volcano structure, is Volkanu: Quest for the Golden Idol. The custom 4D dark ride, created and
developed by Sally Dark Rides, features a custom storyline, trackless vehicles, immersive scenery, interactive gaming, special effects, and several impressive animatronics, including the mysterious shaman who sets the tone and story for riders. Volkanu is one of 22 rides at the park.
Others include the Nopuko Air Coaster from Vekoma, the Awaati Battle family splash battle, Alzanu’s Eye, 100-foot-tall Ferris wheel and Mura Fury, a thrilling pendulum ride that swings and spins to a maximum height of 65 feet (20 metres). A few attractions that did not open with the park are readying for the 2023 season.
