Cruising
There are a number of new coasters yet to be named. Lakeside Amusement Park, Denver, Colorado, will open a relocated Pinfari Zyklon/Galaxi Z64 that had operated since the ‘70s at Hamel’s Park, Celebration City, Saginaw County Fairgronds, and Funplex.
Luna Park, Brooklyn, New York, will add two coasters including a new Zamperla Junior Coaster J2SK Custom that measures 1,312 feet long and 50 feet high. They will also add a relocated Zamperla Mini Mouse that operated from 2003 to 2019 at New York City’s Victorian Gardens.
Cedar Valley’s Wild Frontier Fun Park, Comins, Michigan, has relocated an SDC Zyklon/Galaxi that since 1976 operated at Adventureland, Splash Kingdom Waterpark, then Swampy Jack’s Wongo Adventure, and finally at Hydro Adventures. It is 1,700 feet long and 55 feet tall.
Rowdy Bear Ridge Adventure Park, Pigeon Forge, Tennessee, is adding a Wiegand powered CoasterKart that is 2,200 feet long.
Wonder Island, Punta Cana, La Altagracia, Dominican Republic, is adding a small steel coaster.
Finally, there is Bolt (shown at the top of the page), the powered Spike coaster from Maurer Rides that is in North America part-time. Bolt is aboard the Carnival Cruise Line’s Mardi Gras, so when it is docked in its Florida port it can be claimed as a North American coaster. It was supposed to open in 2020, but with the ship now set to be christened in 2021, passengers will be able to cruise around its deck on the ride’s motorcycle-inspired cars, controlling their own speed.
38 Marking Time
Several coasters are in the works but the time for their debut is unclear. Lagoon in Farmington, Utah, is building a yet to be named coaster in-house. An opening date has not been announced.
Coming to Florida’s Walt Disney World is the new Guardians of the Galaxy Ride, Cosmic Rewind (above). Scheduled to open either this year or next, it is due to be the first rollercoaster in Epcot. With a ride system from Vekoma, it is being dubbed a “storytelling coaster.” It will have rotating seats and a reverse launch and will be the first Marvel ride for Walt Disney World.
Another new ride planned for Walt Disney World is the TRON Lightcycle Power
Run.The ride is already open at Shanghai Disneyland, but will also open in the U.S. in either 2021 or 2022. The new rollercoaster, destined for the Magic Kingdom’s Tomorrowland, features both indoor and outdoor track and speeds up to 60 mph.
