New Coasters opening in 2021 in North America
With the impact of COVID- 19 on park attendance, the pandemic has also had an impact on the introduction of new roller coasters. Paul Ruben reports.
I With a
larger footprint than other single- rail rides, Jersey Devil's orange hued track will off er a bit more time between elements
n 2021, 31 new or relocated roller coasters are scheduled to open in North America. Of these, 11 were originally planned to open in 2020 but were postponed because of the pandemic as only 22 did open that year. In 2019, prior to the arrival of the pandemic, 45 opened.
Delayed Openings
Among those delayed from last year is the Jersey Devil coaster. Six Flags Great Adventure, Jackson, New Jersey, will shatter three world records when it debuts the Jersey Devil, the tallest, fastest and longest single rail coaster. From Rocky Mountain Construction, the Jersey Devil will tower 13 stories and reach speeds up to 58 mph (93 kph) as riders soar through the dark and foreboding woods along 3,000 feet (914 m) of track. With a larger footprint than other single-rail rides, its orange-hued track will offer a bit more time between elements.
