Snakes and Lizards

Indiana Beach, Monticello, Indiana, will add a Triple Loop coaster (above) designed and manufactured by Anton Schwarzkopf. The park’s sixth coaster is 110 feet (34 m) tall, 3,444 feet (1.050 m) long, and carries riders to a top speed of 53 mph (85 kph). It will be completely reconditioned and installed in time for the summer of 2021. The coaster first operated as Triple Loop Coaster from 1997 through 1999 at Sunway Lagoon. It was then moved to Flamingo Land, Malton, UK and operated as Magnum Force from 2000 through 2005. It was then transported to La Feria Chapultepec Magico in Mixico City where it rolled as Quimera from 2007 through 2019 before finding its latest home.

Stunt Pilot (right, top) will be the seventh coaster at Silverwood in Athol, Idaho. It will feature a single-rail track and low-slung, single-passenger cars. From Rocky Mountain Construction, Stunt Pilot will deliver three inversions and offer abrupt transitions between elements that will mimic the aerobatic maneuvers of vintage airplanes. This biplane-themed coaster will recall the air shows that were hosted by the Idaho theme park in the ‘80s and ‘90s. The 113-foot-tall ride will reach a top speed of 52 mph over a 1,800-foot- long track.

One of the most talked-about new coaster of 2021 is coming to the new Funplex Myrtle Beach oceanfront amusement park in South Carolina. Fun in the Sun is an SBF Visa Big Air Coaster (right, middle) with spinning cars and a so-called 360º Car that spins vertically like a human hamster wheel. The Big Air Coaster was introduced by New Jersey-based Rides 4-U at the 2019 IAAPA Expo.

The Sidewinder Safari (right, bottom) coaster coming to Six Flags Discovery Kingdom, Vallejo, California, will navigate hairpin turns, steep drops and helixes along a 1,378 foot long track. A Zamperla spinning wild mouse Twister Coaster 420 STD, this new 29 mph family ride will be combined with an animal exhibit. Riders will enter through a jungle-themed queue displaying snakes, lizards, and other reptiles.
