Six Flags adds a new park concept for International Markets

S

ix Flags has added a new theme park concept to its portfolio of international licensed parks.

Thrillseeker joins a line-up that includes full expression theme parks, water parks, children’s parks, adventure parks (with climbing walls, rope courses, zip lines, etc.), and hotel water parks. Thrillseeker is designed for up and coming markets incorporating best in class rides and attractions, thrills, and entertainment for an economical price point. It fills a need between FECs and full-sized parks. Thrillseeker, like all Six Flags parks, is highly scalable and designed to fit on

15 to 30 hectare sites (37 to 75 acres). The footprint can easily support attendance between 750,000 to 1,500,000 guests per year with an average design day set at a comfortable 10,000 guests. Three distinct themed areas are

included in the master plan. Two areas are fully themed to Six Flags global brand standards while the third is dedicated to local customisation. Thinking ahead, the park is designed with an additional expansion zone that can be a future water park, adventure park, or children’s park.

Jungle Island appoints Curtis

Crider as general manager Jungle Island, South Florida’s iconic attraction, has appointed Curtis Crider as its new general manager. Crider brings more than 26 years of hospitality management experience to the 18-acre park and will oversee Jungle Island during the next phase of its multi-million dollar reinvention into an eco-adventure theme destination. Upon completion, Jungle Island will boast a family-friendly hotel and new attractions that provide visitors from around the globe with a real jungle adventure experience in the heart of Miami.

“Curtis understands the hospitality industry inside and out in South Florida,” said John

Dunlap, CEO of Iconic Attractions Group, the management company for Jungle Island. “We are thrilled to have him join our leadership team. Coupled with his vast hotel experience and outstanding reputation, he is the ideal candidate to lead the park through its rebirth in the esteemed role of general manager.” Crider takes over the helm from Christopher Gould, who joined Jungle Island in 2014 and will be transitioning to senior vice president of Iconic Attractions Group.

New entertainment suite in The Blackpool Tower’s 125th year

A new themed entertainment and event suite will open at The Blackpool Tower this summer and will be used for family fun, events and conferences. This comes as The Blackpool Tower celebrates its 125th year of providing amazing and memorable family experiences. Work has already started on the

new 750-capacity venue which is due to open to the public in August. The new suite replaces the children’s

play area, Jungle Jim’s. An additional 20 new jobs will be created. Kenny Mew, general manager at

The Blackpool Tower, said: “We are really excited to be opening this new space for the public. This new area will increase the potential of attracting big names in the entertainment industry right here to Blackpool. The possibilities are endless. It will have multiple themes, including a taste of circus which Blackpool is so famous for! “Over the years, Jungle Jim’s has

been close to many people’s hearts and it has brought literally thousands of hours of playtime fun which will always be remembered.

“Moving forward, it is important for

The Blackpool Tower to ensure it is meeting public demand in relation to features which they want to see. Over the years, we have noticed an increasing appetite for unique event spaces inside our iconic building; therefore we are keen to meet this demand and to be able to create 20 plus permanent jobs which is a real positive for Blackpool. “During its 125 year history, this

area has been home to many exciting attractions and this new space will only add to the legacy of this historic building. It will really complement our portfolio of first class event spaces here at The Blackpool Tower.” Currently The Blackpool Tower is

home to attractions including The Blackpool Tower Eye, The Blackpool Tower Circus, The Blackpool Tower Ballroom and The Blackpool Tower Dungeon which can also be used for meetings and events. This month The Blackpool

Tower celebrated its 125th birthday. On May 14, honoured guests and friends of the Lancashire landmark gathered in The Blackpool Tower Ballroom to commemorate the anniversary.
