INTERVIEW – COPAG

COPAG: Fabiano Veiga and the emotion of handling playing cards

COPAG, with more than 100 years producing playing cards, has been at the centre of the casino business industry dealing mostly with land-based casino products throughout Latin America. During Sagse Buenos Aires, Casino International Americano’s Ricki Chavez-Munoz spoke to Fabiano Veiga, Sales Manager, about what new offers COPAG has in store in this digital age, and how the company is setting up for the next hundred years.

Ricki: As the land-based gaming industry in Latin America continuous with new developments in several countries, have you noticed an increase in land-based gambling activity? Is COPAG experiencing something similar? Fabiano: “Surely yes, the land based gaming industry is increasing the operations, and we are experiencing that by selling our playing decks to the main Casinos around the globe.”

Ricki: Copag is one of the sponsors of the World Series of Poker. How is this gambling segment progressing? Are there new poker tournaments where Copag also takes part? Fabiano: “Copag take part of a lot of Poker tournaments around the world and sponsoring WSOP is a big pleasure for us, as this is the main Poker Tournament in the world.”

Ricki: Security plays a very important part in casino games, and more so in card games where, in some games, players handle the cards. Has Copag developed anything new in relation to cards marking by cheats, for instance? Fabiano: “Yes, we are always developing new back designs to avoid playing cards marking, as well as different security features in our packaging.”

Ricki: As gaming online develops worldwide, with digital gambling offering iGaming products, has this impacted much on Copag sales, and has the company a strategy for moving into this segment? Fabiano: “No impacts at all, as the players will always need the emotion of handling playing cards, and as I answered above, the land based gaming is increasing the operation.”

10 JUNE 2025

Ricki: Finally, Fabiano, as the Senate gets set to debate legislation for casino resorts in the country with a plenary vote on PL 2234/22, this year. Is this something exciting for COPAG to impose its global

leadership? Fabiano: “Of course, Copag is waiting for this so we will be able to sell our cards to the Casinos in Brazil, it would be very nice to have our cards “being played at home”!
