I’m involved with a few different magazines covering a few different industries. With the echo of ICE still ringing in my ears, I recently attended the ICE-equivalent in the world of kitchens and bathrooms (I told you they were different didn’t I!) The event was a four-day shebang at the NEC in Birmingham and though it was a totally new experience for me, what I hadn’t expected… was how quiet it was! Everyone kept telling me how “busy” it was, but it felt like ICE before they open the doors! The corridors… so spacious. The competing booth DJs… non- existent. The “it’s so manic – let’s just catch up after ICE” vibe… non-existent. I had no idea we were so ‘bonkers’! Fortunately, just as I was starting to question my sanity, I bumped into GIO Editor, Anjali. We approached each across the neat and tidy show floor… “oh my god; this is so quiet!” she said. Phew! I thought it was just me! I guess I just thought that’s what all shows were like! I came from the video games industry – which is very similar to our industry in many ways – so the volume and pace of ICE just seemed ‘natural’ to me. It really has me wondering if Barcelona 2025 will be a carbon copy of February’s ICE or a totally different vibe. I checked the January weather for Barcelona and it said: “The

average daily temperature in Barcelona in January is around 10°C. However, temperatures can drop to as low as 5°C during the night,” so at least that will be a familiar experience to London! Anyway, I’ve run out of space and said almost nothing of worth. Lucky you – bullet dodged.

Enjoy the issue!
