PARTYPOKER LIVE

Q&A: partypoker Live

Matt Broughton talks to partypoker LIVE’s John Duthie about the task of bringing the big online poker experience into the real world.

Casino International Online: Tell us what partypoker LIVE is.

” Who wouldn’t MILLIONS is

John Duthie: partypoker LIVE is an extensive series of International live poker festivals run with carefully selected partner venues/casinos across the globe, with live qualification at the same venues and some other partner venues and online qualification through partypoker.com. There are effectively three levels of tournament: 1) The MILLIONS events which have a $5,300 buy-in 2) The partypoker MILLION events which have a $1,100 buy-in and 3) The Grand Prix events which have a £220/€220 buy-in. All events have competitive guaranteed prize-pools. In addition to this we are also running local National Championship events which are also proving very popular.

CIO: What are the immediate difficulties faced when you try to bring the huge fields we’re used to online into a real-world setting? JD: Venue size, length of tournament and associated labour costs are the main stumbling blocks, but careful planning using the most experienced teams around the globe enable us to run efficient and enjoyable events.

CIO: What’s in it for the players? JD: The main attraction for the players aside from the amazing venues and the great atmosphere generated uniquely at our events are undoubtedly the guaranteed prize pools which we underwrite. This means that if a player travels to an event he/she

knows immediately the value that they are getting from their original investment. They effectively know it’s going to be a success before they depart.

CIO: How do you encourage people away from the comfort of their home set ups? JD: Whilst it’s of course very convenient to play poker online, there’s a whole world out there to experience and it really doesn’t take much to persuade players to enter online satellites where they can use their skills to qualify for a ticket to a LIVE event. I mean who wouldn’t want to play a live event in the Caribbean the seat for which you won whilst watching Coronation Street and playing on your laptop or smartphone?

CIO: How do players qualify for these big events? JD:Online satellites are always running to all our events on partypoker.com and all the player has to decide is when they can play, what level of entry fits their budget, where they would like to travel to… and that’s pretty much it. Qualifying live satellite tournaments are also held at some of our partner venues for specific events as these are also very popular.

CIO: Tell us how many events you’ve had to date, and the kind of attendance you’ve enjoyed. JD: Without going through every single event that we have run this year, I can say that we have run two MILLIONS events – one in UK with a £6,000,000 guaranteed prize pool and one in Russia with a
