FLOORING, TILING & PANELLING Natasha Howson

Fired Earth

Matt Broughton spoke to Natasha Howson - Director of Retail at Fired Earth – about the year so far and THAT collaboration with M&S.

024 has been a very busy and productive year for Fired Earth thus

far, leaving Director of Retail - Natasha Howson - happy with what they’ve achieved while still knowing there’s plenty more to be done this year. Great photography and design collaborations

have been high on the agenda for the company this year, as Natasha explains: “Working with M&S, Nina Cambell, Designers Guild and Kelly Hoppen have all been highlights. The photography each collaboration produces is so unique to each designer and the products just look fantastic. Our customers love them.” The company has also been putting plenty of

effort into its outdoor ranges: “We recognise that our outdoor living spaces are becoming more important to the way we live,” explains Natasha, “especially with so many people working from home. And as everyone leads such busy lives, we

know products need to be low maintenance and super practical. So that’s what we’ve looked for; practical and beautiful products you’d want in your home and outside, all at really great prices.” The partnership between Fired Earth and

Marks and Spencer was also key to the company’s year: “It’s been such a great collaboration - two great brands working together, a perfect combination of British heritage. The products we have designed are timeless classics, the muted colours and gentle patterns have been a great addition to our range. The glazed bricks are stunning; we’ve shown how you can have a bit more fun with a glazed tile rather than the normal brick-bond we’ve seen for the past few years. We love seeing how they’re used in our customers’ homes - people aren’t afraid to try something different. “ Fired Earth’s ‘Heritage’ product - Terracotta – has proved popular. I asked Natasha why she

thinks it’s getting so much attention right now. “We’ve seen a shift in trends to a much warmer, natural aesthetic and terracotta encapsulates this perfectly. Our handmade classic is the original product Fired Earth started with in the 80’s and we’re proud to experience the revival 40 years on. It’s not just for farmhouses and country living anymore, we’re seeing it installed into modern, open-plan homes, onto walls, outdoors, and commercially. It always looks stunning, and truly unique.” As for the rest of 2024, Fired Earth have

new bathroom ranges due to launch later in the year: “some great stuff is being prepared behind the scenes for this and we’re planning lots of store updates and store events for customers and trade,” says Natasha. “In short, we’ll continue doing what we love; inspiring with well-designed, timeless products. We love it!”
