Editor’s Letter I
t is safe to say Melanie and I have been very busy for this edition. The number of miles we have wracked up collectively, even The Proclaimers may have had second thoughts. But, it has been an amazing couple of months
visiting lots of amazing places and getting more of an insight into the world of sign making and vehicle wrapping.
First off we attended Sign & Digital UK as the sponsoring journal. It was an eye-opening show as I got the chance to speak with some of the acting members in the industry. It was really interesting to see all the kit currently on the market and it was truly jaw-dropping to see the sheer scale of some of the machines; both in size and quantity. I went in with so many questions but everyone exhibiting was more than happy to answer them all.
We have inserted a wrap-up of everything that happened, including testimonials from visitors, and all can be found on pages 32 to 43.
We also attended the inaugural Sign Industry Awards where we saw the best and brightest get rewarded for their amazing work throughout the year. Melanie handed out the Apprentice of the Year award while I was given the incredible honour of bestowing Paul Harvey, of Nova Aluminium Systems, with the Outstanding Contribution award.
A rundown of the other winners can be found on pages 44 to 47.
Finally, I visited the KGK Genix headquarters in Harlow where the managing director, Graham Pitts, kindly gave me a tour of the company’s facilities. It has recently expanded its services with the purchase of the new swissQprint Kudu and a whole small-format printing department. To be able to see so many different pieces of kit in one place fully operational and buzzing from business, I don’t think I could have been any better placed.
A complete article of my time there can be found on pages 48 to 49.
For now, it is nice to be back in the office having put this issue together and collating more of your stories.
