Carefully designed for use in inclusive and accessible bathrooms

The Select Flex mixer shower from Mira is designed for inclusive and accessible bathrooms, utilising a traditional surface-mounted concentric mixer. Expanding the range of tactile and visual cues to aid user navigation, the Select Flex creates a much more accessible and enjoyable showering experience. Catering for a broad range of visual impairments

Tech gives heat pump users greater visibility

Smart home expert Hive is partnering with Daikin to integrate the manufacturer’s Altherma 3 heat pumps with a technology that’s designed to give customers greater visibility and control of their system. This includes allowing users to personalise heating schedules, track spending and set budgets, while also optimising their heat pump for use when electricity is cheaper and greener due to low demand on the grid. Customers will be able to control their heat pump via the Hive app,

which is a whole-home smart hub for connectivity across heating, lighting, batteries and electric vehicle chargers. Both businesses will be trialing the integration later this year and have plans to roll out the product offering widely once the trial is complete. “As we integrate Daikin heat pumps with our Hive technology,” says

Gail Parker, director at Hive, “we are making electric heating affordable and simple by giving customers the visibility they need to control their heat pump and energy usage in one easy-to-use app.” Iain Bevan, Daikin’s new business director – residential, adds:

“Combining a smart controller, like Hive, with a low carbon heat pump not only gives people more control, it can also help them get the perfect temperature to save them even more money at the same time.” In addition to helping customers with smart technology, Hive and

British Gas are launching a new heat pump tariff designed to lower running costs and encourage the installation of heat pumps. ◼ phamnews.co.uk/624/51

Electric UFH solutions fit right in

A comprehensive range of advanced electric underfloor heating products are available from Watts Technology, including TapeMat, WarmWire, and HeatMatrix, designed to provide comfort, convenience, and reliability for both new construction and retrofit projects. TapeMat features an open-

weave design for easy, one-step mortar installation, allowing it to be tailored to fit any floor plan.

WarmWire offers the flexibility to adapt to various floor layouts at a cost-effective price, and is suited for use under tile or stone in wet applications. The HeatMatrix uncoupling

membrane enables fast and easy installation of WarmWire, with

the ability to simply press the wire into the pre-formed channels at the desired spacing. This system also protects tile and stone from cracking by providing a stress control layer that isolates the surface from subfloor movement. ◼ phamnews.co.uk/624/54

Anti-freeze valve allows for flexible installation

The new compact iStop PLUS anti-freeze valve from Altecnic includes an off-axis sensor configuration that allows for installation in even the most restricted spaces. This flexibility is further enhanced

by the valve’s ability to be installed vertically in parallel, allowing installers to seamlessly incorporate valve pairs without the need for excessive spacing. The compact design also reduces the required drainage area,

making the valve suitable for connection to self- contained heat pumps. Equipped with ‘exceptional’

temperature sensitivity, the iStop PLUS ensures prompt and precise performance, to enhance system reliability and user confidence. Additionally, the valve is engineered to withstand high water temperatures of up to 90°C, allowing it to operate seamlessly with any heat pump. ◼ phamnews.co.uk/624/55

and physical disabilities, the Select Flex is safe and easy to use, whether standing, seated, or being assisted by a carer. It features an easy-grip loop handle lever for temperature, a low-friction slide bar for one-handed adjustment of shower head height, and a simple push-button action to enable consistent flow and temperature control every time. Additionally, the shower’s visuals and detents have

been designed and developed in conjunction with the Royal National Institute of Blind People to ensure it is

optimised for those with visual impairments. Dave Pixton, senior industrial designer at Mira

Showers, comments: “This innovative and easy to use shower exemplifies inclusive design and makes showering accessible for everyone.” Recently, the Select Flex won an iF Design award, a

contest that recognises outstanding innovation and quality on products throughout the world. ◼ phamnews.co.uk/624/52

Customers looking to ensure quiet in the bathroom can benefit from Laufen’s latest WC technology, Silent Flush. This feature minimises noise, ensuring that night-time visits to the toilet don’t disturb other family members or neighbours, especially for those who live in a flat. It is available on all new Meda and Kartell wall-hung and floor- standing WCs. “Considering the noise level of

the flush might not be top of your list when choosing a new toilet,” says Emma Mottram, Laufen brand marketing manager. “But it’s surprising how loud a flush

can sound in the middle of the night. With Silent Flush, this is no longer a problem. And as you would expect from Laufen, Silent Flush is also very efficient.” Silent Flush operates by

spiralling water powerfully yet quietly through the toilet bowl. This is possible due to the shape of the inside of the rimless WC which guides the water along an optimised path. This creates a vortex that cleans the toilet, efficiently using minimal water. As a result, the technology is not just quiet, it is hygienic and helps to save water too. ◼ phamnews.co.uk/624/53
