PHAM NEWS | JUNE 2023 32 Training& Education

All the heat pump skills you need

A new training centre has been opened by Mitsubishi Electric at its factory complex in Livingston, Scotland. The facility will be able to train over 1,000 installers per year, providing an opportunity to gain from both hands-on experience and also learn from Virtual Reality (VR) which off ers an innovative way to learn and understand the workings of heat pumps. The Livingston Training

Centre joins the company’s two other centres in Manchester and Hatfi eld, and gives installers a

Zero emission boiler course

chance to complete their Part 1, 2 and 3 training in the design and install of Ecodan heat pumps, or who would like to attend a practical, hands-on workshop at the Livingston centre, for all Scottish registered installation companies. Russell Dean, residential product

Chance to join the green revolution

The Eastbourne-based Training Hub, a partnership between East Sussex College and OHM Energy, off ers a variety of courses and certifi cations focused on green technologies and sustainability. The hub’s off erings span essential skills like low carbon, decarbonisation, heat pumps, solar PV, and retrofi t technologies. A new suite of four retrofi t courses has been

developed with employers and the Retrofi t Academy as part of a Skills Development fund supported by the Department of Education. All courses have been

group director, says: “Off ering hands-on training, trainees can be fully immersed in the world of heat pumps. They will leave here having developed their skills and advanced their career opportunities to install heat pumps.” ◼ phamnews.co.uk/624/21

assured by City and Guilds and provide a bridge to industry qualifi cation of the future. The courses explore retrofi t from a Level 2 Understanding Domestic Retrofi t through to Level 5 Retrofi t Coordination and Risk Management. The Decarbonisation Academy consists of

entirely online courses that guide installers through each section, learning about the theory and practice of diff erent elements of sustainability. BPEC courses range from heat pump

installation to solar PV and water regulations/ bylaws. All courses have been designed to meet the requirement of the National Occupational Standards and industry working groups. ◼ phamnews.co.uk/624/22

New low carbon academy opens in Sheffi eld

Bite sized learning in 60 seconds

Wetroom solutions manufacturer Impey has launched a new initiative of helpful 60-second videos. The fresh selection of bite size content will help installers widen their knowledge of leak-free, level access shower installation and is available to watch now via the Impey website. The collection of short videos

is aimed at installers looking to expand their knowledge of wetroom work. It has been produced to showcase features, benefi ts and handy installation

tips for the brand’s portfolio of wetroom showering solutions. Presented by Impey’s resident

wetroom guru Shaun Hunt (pictured), installers can pick up all the tips and knowledge that they need to improve their wetroom installation skillset.

The training provided by tepeo equips installers with a com- prehensive understanding of the Zero Emission Boiler (ZEB) and the skills required to successfully install this low carbon heating solution. The ZEB is a direct replacement

for a heat-only boiler, requiring minimal changes to existing heating systems, and is compatible with the existing radiators, UFH, and hot water cylinders. Product and installation training

only takes half a day. Engineers can either train in-person at tepeo’s newly-opened Academy in Wokingham, or download a digital guide and train in their own time. Installers will gain in-depth

product knowledge, including the

key features and technical specifi cations of the ZEB, as well as how it functions as an electricity-powered, heat battery- based system that is compatible with existing heating infrastructure. After completing training and

signing the reseller agreement, installers will join the tepeoPRO Programme and receive comprehensive support from tepeo, including a listing on their PROFinder map, access to marketing materials, and qualifi ed leads provided. One of the area sales managers from tepeo will be on hand for the fi rst sale and installation to guide where necessary. ◼ phamnews.co.uk/624/23

The videos are available via

a new dedicated web page and will explore Impey’s products including Aqua-Dec EasyFit fl oor former, Aqua-Dec Linear fl oor former, Aqua-Grade and Aqua-Grade Linear screed templates, wetroom drainage options and WaterGuard wetroom waterproofi ng Aqua-Mat UFH. Shaun, who is also responsible

for running Impey’s live ‘We Are Wetrooms Online’ training, explains: “We want to off er continuous support to our community of installers. These 60-second videos are accessible and easy to understand, off ering a way to help everybody to develop a deeper insight into the intricacies of wetroom installation.” ◼ phamnews.co.uk/624/25

Swedish clean energy-tech company Aira has opened a new training academy in Sheffi eld, with the goal of developing a skilled workforce to support the country’s decarbonisation eff orts. The Aira Academy will serve as a hub for training and retraining programmes for those looking to enter or transition into green energy careers. A key focus of the academy will

be onboarding apprentices who are pursuing careers in renewable energy, which Aira will be doing in partnership with the local RNN Group. These apprenticeship

programs will likely follow an academic year-based structure, allowing new cohorts of apprentices to be brought on starting in September. The academy’s 320m2 facility

includes dedicated training rooms and equipment demonstration zones where all trainees can develop practical, hands-on skills. This will enable them to gain familiarity with the latest heat pump technologies, as well as an understanding of the policies and regulations governing the clean energy sector. ◼ phamnews.co.uk/624/24

Try a time saving tool

Baxi is off ering free access to Carno’s renewables design and calculation tool to installers attending its Heat Pump Installer training course. The tool simplifi es and expedites the design and installation of air source heat pumps, said to save up to 10 hours per job. It streamlines processes like lead qualifi cation, home surveying, system design, and MCS administration. The platform generates robust designs and reports that meet MCS guidelines, enabling customers to claim the £7,500 Boiler Upgrade Scheme grant. Carno’s automated calculations and performance data

tools help installers fi nd the best balance between upfront and running costs for the new renewable heating system. The tool also automatically generates MCS documents. ◼ phamnews.co.uk/624/26
