Where AI will


really be useful for schools

here is always something unexpected around the corner in education. While last year schools were given much-


needed extra budget to invest in IT, they also had to deal with higher inflation and wage demands. By the end of the financial year in April, the Department of Education was once again emphasising how important it is for them to get the very best return on investment from their IT spending. Tis is one reason schools should be interested


in artificial intelligence (AI). Not necessarily for what it can do for them in itself, but how it can be used within IT networks and infrastructure to give them better, more intuitive and effective solutions at an affordable price. By using AI in a practical way, schools will be better-placed to give pupils – and teachers – the reliable, effective, and secure IT frameworks they need.

Transformational technology? Everyone is talking about AI and how it will transform all kinds of industries. In education there is no doubt that it can and will be useful. But exactly how it will be used remains to be seen. Tere will certainly be new applications


and services that are built using or around AI that enhance learning by providing more intuitive interactions between machines and pupils. It will also be used to make life easier for students and teachers by providing faster and more accurate assessments, feedback and marking, correcting mistakes and thus speeding up the learning process. Clearly, any developments that make use of


AI to deliver specific benefits in education will need to come from somewhere. Tey will need to be conceptualised, designed, created, refined, and tested before they can be deployed and
