Education

Who’s educating who(m)?

Marketing executive Scott Frankling reveals what Target Components has learned from resellers to the education sector.

O

ne of the unforeseen consequences of lockdowns was the light shining on previously-undiscovered local

businesses. Small, independent shops and service-providers have finally seen themselves absorbed into the local psyche as contenders for people’s money. And, for the first time in what seems like

forever, towns and cities, even villages, are seeing the businesses therein speaking to each other as mutual suppliers because – who knew! – they actually exist on their doorsteps. Tey might even know each other from the pub, the footy, from their own experiences. Te education sector is no different – aſter all, staff and teachers oſten work in the same area they live, and the people they live around are the families feeding the school system.

20 | May/June 2024 Te lockdowns introduced educators to

their local computer shops through necessity. As it was for many people, teachers, lecturers, staff in educational establishments, even policy-makers came to experience their local IT pro as an emergency service (the blind panic from teachers as the WiFi wouldn’t cope with the whole family online when they were trying to teach screens full of kids from the kitchen; the absolute fear that many, many students didn’t have access to the technology they needed to learn from home). Tat 5-minute call or socially-distanced home visit made all the difference in getting students learning, educational sites running and all stakeholders provided with the equipment they needed when no one, not even their own employers, could help.
