We both started in bike shops, and we were both fortunate to join the other side of the counter when bicycles were still being assembled in mass in the UK. One thing a lot of business owners, directors

and managers fail to do is to be able to get out of the day-to- day and look at what’s shifting. That became a lot easier for us when we found ourselves without jobs: questioning the decisions we’d made, questioning our ability, questioning what the market needed, and whether it could be done differently. Could a bridge be gapped, allowing market- leading brands to enter the UK in a different capacity, one that needed less capital, less margin and a more collaborative approach between brands and retailers? We thought so, and modelled out what we thought could be achieved, eventually launching our concept ‘distribution with a difference’.
