pryder@datateam.co.uk EDITORIAL Good Vs Bad

Recently, someone said we (Bikebiz) were oblivious to the state of the industry (I’m paraphrasing). And I appreciate that it might look like that sometimes. We don’t always share news about brand closures or businesses going under. If we can’t add to a story like that, there are plenty of places the news has already been shared, so we’re just adding to the noise. I appreciate that sounds like I’m contradicting myself given that we share a

lot of ‘good’ news that others do too. There are many out there that do deep dives and investigative pieces so well, and we simply don’t have the manpower. We’re a small team, and we do what we can. We’re not immune to the bad, and we’re not ignorant of it either. If something needs to be said and it warrants something from us, we will publish it. Instead, we’re choosing to focus on creating as much original content covering as much of the industry as possible, whether that’s here in the magazine or on our website. We’ve even branched out into YouTube and more video content on our socials where possible. Getting to the point. We know it’s tough out there. We know we’re not out of the woods and that we sadly haven’t seen the end of closures. But there are so many people out there working hard, trying new things, launching new products, learning and growing. We could choose to focus and share the ‘bad’, but in our eyes, continually perpetuating that times are tough doesn’t really help when many of you live and breathe it daily. Arguably that might be seen that we’re lacking balance, and I can appreciate that. But as I’ve said, we do what we can and we can appreciate that others do a much better job of the deep dives. That being said, we’re always open to feedback and to contributions from subject matter experts. This is a platform for industry, good and bad. And often, it’s better coming from the horse’s mouth, as it were. Thank you to all of you who take the time to read and contribute.
