STEAMWORLD HEIST 2 Steamworld is Thunderful’s flagship property, offering a wild west sci-fi setting where all the characters are clunking retro-bots. If you’ve not been keeping up with the series, Heist is the turn-based tactics spin-off from Dig (the puzzle- platforming one), where you recruit bots and send them over to raid enemy ships, using generous amounts of ricochet and rebounding to achieve victory. The sequel offers more of the same, via a nautical theme.

ARCADE PARADISE VR Originally released for those fusty old flat screen-favouring devices back in 2022, coin-op collecting/launderette-running management sim Arcade Paradise has since been updated and expanded to run on those new-fangled 3D headsets that seem to be all the rage. Arcade Paradise VR has actually been available for Meta Quest for a few months already, but now it’s gone multiplatform and can be played by anyone with a PCVR or PSVR2 set-up. To say it’s a natural fit for VR undermines the qualities of the original a little, but it really is.

ZZAP! LIVE 2024 Ancient readers will recall Zzap!64 from their misspent youth, as the magazine to buy for anyone into Commodore 64 games. The magazine was closed in 1992, having launched the careers of Gary Penn, Chris Anderson and Ciarán Brennan, and that was the end of that. Or so we all thought. A couple of years back Retro Fusion Books resurrected the magazine (along with the ZX Spectrum- obsessed Crash) and both also have annual live events indulging nostalgia while showcasing new homebrew
games. Crash Live, the one for Speccy fans, is planned for December.
