Was it a risk? For both of them there are ways in. With Karateka, the idea is ‘You know Prince of Persia? Well, this is sort of like the prototype. With Jeff Minter a lot of people know Tempest 2000, but with both if all we were doing was getting the games running again, almost no one would care. But because we’re doing it as an interactive documentary, even if, you know, you have never played a Jeff major game before, or even if you have never heard of Karateka before, we’re going to tell you a great story. And we’re going to ease you into it. And we’re going to introduce you to these games in a way that is respectful to them, but also respectful to you and your time.

The game industry does not show enough respect to


classic games. We should treat them like the works of art that they are. We should treat them like the foundational work that this whole massive global industry is based on. We shouldn’t simply leave it to history books and Netflix documentary series, which can be great, but aren’t working in the storytelling medium of the 21st century. We are the storytellers. You said DE has got quite a few things planned for the year and that you get a lot of suggestions from players about what they’d like to see. What are the most popular or what are the most interesting? I don’t want to call anything out specifically, because some of the popular ones may never happen and some of the unpopular ones might. I will say this: We are listening. If you’re out there on social media, just talking about the stuff you think would be cool in a positive, enthusiastic way, that’s definitely something that we want to save.
