Sonic Origins

Do fans need another repacking of early Sonic the Hedgehog games? Well, given that it’s the Tails end of the franchise’s 30th anniversary and the movies are proving to be a hit (not to mention the games are by some accounts still quite good), why the blue devil not! Origins gathers together Sonic 1, 2, CD and Sonic & Knuckles, all of them first appearing on Mega Drive. As well as being able to be played in their original 4:3 glory, an Anniversary Mode introduces widescreen and the option to play through each game as any of the main protagonists, with various collectibles and special modes to unlock.

Despite enjoying some measure of critical success, it’s fair to say that Outriders hasn’t performed well where it counts. Since releasing a year ago to a flurry of interest (3.5 million players in its first month thanks to debuting on Game Pass), the numbers quickly sank back and the game has yet to break even according to its developer. However, before it gets filed away with Amazon’s Crucible, Square Enix is preparing one last throw of the dice in the form of the Worldslayer expansion. Will it be enough to secure a future for the game equal to that of Destiny, Borderlands or Warframe, or will it be the new Anthem? Stay tuned to find out.

Fire Emblem Warriors: Three Hopes

It hardly seems that a month goes by without another franchise- crossing Dynasty Warriors-inspired game crossing the Switch threshold. This one of course marries the traditionally turn-based tactics adventure Fire Emblem with the kind of hack-and-slack horde-slaying that Switch players never seem to tire of. Like the similarly inspired Zelda-infused Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity, we’re getting two great franchises and gameplay styles for the price of one, which on Nintendo machines is rarely a cause for concern.
