Kingsway Domestic Appliances,

Humberstone Road

This store is located at the junction of Humberstone Road and Brunswick Street. I was looking to buy a new cooker. Inside the

store, I was greeted by Zain, who said that cookers are available in a number of different widths and I said that, having measured the space at home, I was looking for a 60cm wide model. Zain explained the differences between ceramic and electric hobs. He presented a Hotpoint cooker (HS67V5KHX) which was priced at £435. Zain said that all of the heating elements in the cooker switch on until

Leicester and Hinckley and is next door to the East Shilton Building Society. I was tasked with finding a birthday present for my teenager. Inside the store, I spotted an electric scooter that was displayed on a TV stand. Tim told me that the Sharp model (EM-KS1), priced at £299, and was on sale as a customer had ordered it but had not returned to pay for it. He said the model can reach speeds of up to 15.5 miles per hour and it has a range of 15 miles. He said it’s ideal for ages 14 and above. I asked Tim where the scooter could be used, and he said it’s illegal to use electric scooters on public highways and they can only be used on private land. Tim briefly demonstrated how the scooter can be folded to transport it.

dishwasher. Inside the store, I explained what I was looking for and Allan got straight to work. He asked if I was looking for a built-in, or freestanding model, and I said that a freestanding model would be ideal. Allan presented a 12-place Bosch model (SMS2ITW08G), priced at £399. He highlighted that the model comes with a five-year warranty, and that it has five programmes, a digital display and an eco-wash feature. He then went to the office and returned a couple of minutes later with a printout of another model – the 14-place Blomberg model (LDF30210W), priced at £349.99, and Allan said it comes with a three-year guarantee. He said that, in his opinion, the Bosch model, although the most expensive model he presented, was good value as it comes with five years peace of mind.

Allan gave a basic overview of the Bosch machine, but his mention of the five-year warranty was an attempt close the sale. The store was well presented.

Currys, St Georges Retail Park

This store is located in the corner of a busy retail park, sandwiched between Home Bargains and Next Factory Outlet.

I was looking to buy a washing machine. Raj started by asking what size drum I was looking for and if I had a particular manufacturer that I was interested in. I said that I wanted a large capacity washing machine to cater to my growing family. He told me that LG and Samsung are the best manufacturers, but he did not explain his reasoning for saying that. Raj presented two models to me.

The first was an 11kg model from Samsung (WW11BGAO46AE), which was priced at £449. He showed me the large drum and he mentioned the Stay Clean drawer, which uses powerful jets to get rid of any detergent build-up. Raj added that purchasers of

was a 13kg washing machine from LG (F4Y513WWLN1), priced at £649. He said that the model comes with a 10-year warranty, but this was only for the motion drive technology.
