ANALYSIS: KITCHENS Home Design
Kitting out the kitchen 24 With more consumers wanting to optimise and personalise
their homes, appliance retailers are best placed to offer the latest fitted kitchen solutions as an extra arm of their business. Jack Cheeseman explores how indies can throw in the kitchen sink… literally!
I
t would seem like a natural course of action that more independent retailers are broadening their horizons to begin offering complete kitchen packages. By expanding their services to more than just appliances,
these retailers are giving themselves the opportunity to compete alongside kitchen studios and take greater market share. And there is share to be had. Recent research
from Häfele, distributor and supplier of furniture fittings, shows that a third of UK homeowners are prioritising home improvements over making plans to move. According to the findings, 23 per cent of homeowners are planning new kitchens this year – the second most popular home improvement on the nation’s agenda, following interior decorating (29 per cent). When it comes to the motives behind changing their kitchens, homeowners said updating the style is most important (25 per cent), closely followed by needing to improve the quality of their space (23 per cent).

Mr Jones adds that the wellness trend is playing a bigger part in how homeowners utilise
their space to enhance their quality of life, such as having bespoke laundry and utility areas as well as hybrid kitchen living spaces to include home office elements.
“Practical luxury and sustainable design are definitely high on the wish list as homeowners want to create lifestyle interiors for the long- haul,” he says. Waterline recently joined the Sirius Buying
Group to find that several members of the Group have expressed an interest complete kitchens…
