HELPING MERCHANTS BUILD A MORE SUSTAINABLE FUTURE H
eidelberg Materials UK is delighted to continue to support the BMJ Industry Awards again through our sponsorship of the Merchant Environmental Initiative of
the Year category.
The award aligns with our commitment to reducing carbon emissions at every stage of our business and helping our customer reach their own net zero targets – ambitions that the judges will be looking for in the winner of this award. They will also want to see what makes you stand out from the crowd in areas such as reducing packaging waste and increasing recycling.
Bags of choice
Heidelberg Materials offers merchants a wide range of reliable, high-performance packed products suitable for all building and landscaping projects, including cement and concrete and base and decorative aggregates – many of which are already available as lower carbon options.
All of our packed cement products, for example, are CEM II A-LL blends, meaning they contain less clinker and more limestone, reducing embodied CO2, while our Low Carbon cement and 40N concrete contain evoBuild low carbon GGBS, a readily available lower carbon cement replacement. And, we
now offer merchants bagged recycled aggregates in addition to our standard range.
We are also leading the way in decarbonising the cement sector through the use of carbon capture and storage (CCS). We opened the world’s first carbon capture facility at a cement works in Brevik, Norway, last year and are building a new one – the first at a UK cement works – at our Padeswood site in north Wales, which is set to be operational in 2029.
evoZero near-zero cement
Our Padeswood CCS project demonstrates our commitment to domestic low carbon cement production and providing merchants with a secure, high quality supply for the future. The facility will capture around 800,000 tonnes of CO2 emissions a year and enable us to produce evoZero carbon captured near-zero cement, which is already available from Brevik. evoZero is a game changer, setting new standards for sustainable building materials and helping the UK construction industry to decarbonise. “Merchants play a vital role in distributing our products and we are delighted to recognise your contribution through our association with these awards,” said Andy Simpson, Packed Products Director at Heidelberg Materials UK. “Good luck to everyone taking part.”
