LANDSCAPING
to create a sense of flow from one space to another, and in drier weather, that is something we expect to continue to be popular.
“Batten fencing, which has narrow vertical
or horizontal wooden strips with consistent small gaps between them, is becoming more and more popular.
“Aesthetics are massively important to landscaping projects, but that is being balanced alongside environmental responsibility.
“Permeable paving and responsibly sourced timber are the way forward. It is about finding materials that are long-lasting and balancing style with sustainability.” Social media’s impact on the industry With social media only increasing in popularity, platforms like Instagram and TikTok have made trends and options far more visible and accessible for homeowners. People are constantly exposed to quick tutorials, before-and-after transformations and influencer-led projects, which lowers the barrier to entry.
Gray believes that social media, combined with the impact the Covid-19 pandemic had on the amount of time people spend in their gardens, has impacted the landscaping industry.
He explains: “I feel social media is driving a wider acceptance for DIY projects,
encouraging customers to attempt tasks themselves.
“Another reason for an increased demand for garden improvement projects stems from the pandemic, where working from home has made people invest more money into their home and garden.
“The demand for a garden project is cyclical; it peaked during the pandemic but has since gone quiet for a couple of years, with it now returning, especially with jobs completed in 2020 due for a refresh.” BMJ
