Jewson sponsors Welsh hedgehog hospital

Builders’ merchant Jewson has sponsored The Prickly Patch, a new volunteer-run hedgehog hospital in Monmouth, South Wales.

The centre provides a dedicated base for care, recovery and release for wild hedgehogs, which are on the red list as a species at risk of extinction.

Jewson has donated more than £10,000 worth of building materials towards the construction of The Prickly Patch, including supplying the main cabin where the hospital is based. This follows a long-running partnership between

the builders’ merchant and young campaigner Dylan Allman, known for his ‘Be Hedgehog Aware’ campaign, who has spearheaded the project.

Sabrina Passley, head of sustainability at STARK Building Materials UK Ltd (STARK UK), said: “The moment we were introduced to Dylan we recognised just how important his vital campaigning is. The Prickly Patch is yet another fantastic milestone on his journey to helping as many hedgehogs as possible, and is a great example of people coming together to create something meaningful.”

The prize draw included as 4-Ball at Horsley Lodge Golf Couse, a Beta 128 Assortment tool set, a bundle of Amazon vouchers, a Fortnum & Mason ‘Kir Royale’ gift set, a £50 Clubhouse Golf voucher and a Makita 18c brushless twin pack. Raffle prizes were donated by Browns Builders Merchants, EngineersMate, leading resolutions, Lecico Cathrooms, Makita and UK Plumbing Supplies. BMF CEO John Newcomb

said: “The BMF Charity Golf Day is an important fund-raiser for our charity partners which also provides opportunities to strengthen relationships across membership. Our heartiest congratulations go to all the winners and our heartfelt thanks to everyone who took part in the event, particularly to JCB for their generous support and for hosting us at one of the most beautiful golf courses in the UK.”
