Boys & Boden was originally a sawmill in Staffordshire, moving to the British Sawmills site in Welshpool in 1917, closer to Montgomeryshire’s oaks and with access to a railway and canal. Becoming a fully fledged builders merchant by 1980, the company now provides for both large trade jobs and small DIY projects, offering kitchens, tiles, external cladding, windows and doors. The company has a variety of specialist sites including the Chester Showroom and DIY Superstore, while subsiduary Pear Stairs is a manufacturer and supplier of bespoke staircases.

Originally catering purely for the plumber and tradesman, and founded in Belfast in 1960 by William Beggs, the family-run company now has a 13 branch network reaching throughout Northern Ireland and South East England. Branch locations across the province are Ballymena, Belfast, Derry/Londonderry, Maghera, Newtownards Portadown and Lisburn. GB mainland locations are Basildon, Cambridge, Hockley Grays and Ely. The company also encompasses four divisions; trade, retail, commercial heating and contract sanitary ware.

Browns Builders Merchants has been in Derby in some shape or form for over a 100 years. The Nottingham road depot is on the original site of the old Browns Foundry. It is a family run, independent company, with come of the staff members having worked at the company since it formed in 1990.
The company is a partner of NBG, playing a full role in the Category Management Teams; Ed Parlato, son of rcently retired managing dirctor Jim Parlato, is vice chair of the BMF’s Young Merchants Group.
