BMCareers - Sector Awareness Programme What is it?

A major national long-term programme of activity spread over several years to

put the building materials sector ‘on the map’ and to help attract the diversity of skills and new talent needed for the success of the sector. The aim is to put the sector on the map, address low awareness and poor image perceptions, and help our members compete harder to attract talented people.

The ‘Materially Different’ programme has at its core the bmcareers. com website with comprehensive PR and social media (paid and organic) support to help get the message out to our main target audiences (school/college leavers, career changers, existing staff). The website www.bmcareers.com is designed to help new entrants discover the sector, explore the range of employment opportunities across the different employer categories and ultimately find employment in the sector by connecting directly with the employers (BMF members) showcasing their profiles on the site.

What’s in it for BMF members?

The website is already attracting a ‘Talent Pool’ of people interested in a job or career in the sector which members can access FOC. The site will also help to attract those seeking apprenticeships by helping them with their search and giving them the opportunity to leave their contact details. All members can have their business listed on the website with links to their own jobs pages. They also get access to a vast selection of tools to help them to attract new staff.

• Position your business as part of a vast and vibrant sector • Reach new talent: 4,000+ bmcareers.com site visits by new entrants to the sector in February 2025 • Free recruitment: 90+ people looking for work available now to contact in the talent pool • Get seen: 170+ BMF members already have employer profiles on the ‘find employers’ register, make sure your brand is represented • Help improve sector attractiveness: share and gain inspiration from the high-profile social media campaign promoting BMCareers across 5 channels • Raise awareness of your brand, jobs, open days, apprenticeships etc. • Energise your team through staff engagement and pride in the campaign • Use the toolkit to help you compete harder for talent

BMF members - How do you get involved? Simply go to www.bmcareers.com and click on the Members Area link at the foot of the home page. Register as a DCO (you can have several of these), get yourself logged on, read the support/help material and get started by setting up your Employer Profile page. Make sure you follow us on social media, explore the toolkit assets fully and check out the new National Launch Action Pack to see how you can really maximise your business benefits. We are also running regular webinars to brief BMF members on how best to use the BMCareers programme. • For further help or any queries, contact Jeremy Harris. email Jeremy.harris@bmf.org.uk

New ‘Feel all Warm and Fuzzy’ campaign

The Department of Energy Security & Net Zero (DESNZ) has begun a new

paid-for marketing campaign to promote and accelerate the take-up of low-carbon home heating.

This new advertising campaign, conceived by the M&C Saatchi agency, is called “feel all warm and fuzzy” - and aims to raise awareness of heat pumps among households in England & Wales.

TV, radio, and digital adverts are now running to spotlight people who have already switched home heating systems - and are happy with a heat pump. These adverts point viewers towards the Boiler Upgrade Scheme (BUS) that has been allocated more money by DESNZ. A 2024 National Home Energy Survey of 2100+ people found that only 28% of respondents were aware of the £7,500 BUS grant.

At last month’s Futurebuild show, Miatta Fahnbulleh MP (Minister for Energy Consumers) met the BMF where she confirmed to us that this campaign was underway. A publicly-funded consumer awareness campaign to explain and encourage owner-occupiers to act is something that the BMF has repeatedly called for from Whitehall, in order to boost a faltering market.
