GLASSWARE FEATURE
Housewares Magazine delves into Klimchi’s rich history, unique designs and mission to revitalize the timeless beauty of Czech glass.
Klimchi’s origins Nestled in the ‘Crystal Valley’ mountain region of the Czech Republic, the kilns of KLIMCHI studios have been used by glass artisans to sculpt bohemian crystal since 1905. In 2019, using his family’s connection to the North Bohemian glasswork, Lukas Klimcak opened the door to the world of glass and custom lighting installations. Expanding the family business’ clientele, Klimcak was exposed to a world of luxury and opulence. This inspired him to establish his own brand, Klimchi, named after his childhood nickname. Klimcak’s vision focused on premium tabletop glass for foreign markets, and he returned to the Czech Republic to transform his ideas into reality. Since the founding of our factory, all KLIMCHI glassware is hand-produced in the Bohemian city of Kamenicky Senov, a place widely revered as the cradle of world-renowned glass manufacture. Bohemian crystal ensures a hallmark of quality and glass artisanship hard to find anywhere else. Our heart and soul are dedicated to handcrafting beautiful glassware for the moments in life we want to hold onto – the breath-taking, the heartbreaking, the astonishing and the beautiful. As we imbue our designs with a curiosity and passion for life, our vision is to create contemporary glass art that will become part of your own story. The history of Czech glassmaking runs deep and it’s very important for KLIMCHI to be strongly connected with the roots and spirit of its home, the people, and their craft.

THE ART OF GLASS
Commitment to excellence There is a growing interest in handcrafted and artisanal glassware. Pieces with unique designs, textures, and imperfections that add character and a sense of authenticity to the products are on trend. There is also a demand for multifunctionality. Consumers often seek a combination of aesthetics, durability, functionality, and uniqueness when it comes to glassware. They want glassware that enhances the visual appeal of their table settings or home decor, withstands regular use without compromising quality, serves its intended purpose effectively, and offers something distinctive that sets it apart from mass-produced options. We started our brand with the Hobnail jug - original design which has been produced in our glass manufacture for decades. Since 2020, Klimchi has fast become known across the globe for its exclusive and dynamic collections, created under the guidance of our creative director, Frantisek Jungvirt. Our portfolio includes tabletop glasspieces as well as candles and vases. We are not interested in saving time through commercial machine manufacture. We believe that the time we spend with each piece and the years of knowledge invested into every curve tells a deeper story. In order to handcraft a piece of KLIMCHI glassware, our glassblowers can take up to three days from start to finish, using the techniques carried down the generations. Unlike conventional glassworks that apply colour via paint or spray on clear glass, we infuse colour additives directly into the glass batch before melting it in our furnace. This meticulous process guarantees colour integration throughout the glass, rendering it consistently vibrant even in the smallest chip. We strive to become a globally renowned glassware brand that
reinvigorates the legacy of Czech handmade glass. With a steadfast commitment to excellence, innovation, and preserving the artistry of traditional craftsmanship, we envision not only revitalizing the timeless beauty of Czech glass but also positioning it at the forefront of the international design landscape.
