Independent Fashion Retailer of the Month

Ana Lambert speaks to independent fashion retailer, Ria Kemp, of Renaissance Boutique in Tunbridge Wells, Kent.

Q&A

Name: Ria Kemp Shop: Renaissance Boutique

Brands: Oraije Paris, Dress Forum, Miou Muse, Daphnea Paris, Klesis, Mustard Seed. Plus carefully selected collections from Spain, Italy & America

Q: How did you get into the fashion industry? Tell us about your background and your current business? Ria Kemp: I’ve worked in fashion retail for over 20 years, working my way through management roles with some well-known retailers, including Topshop. Fashion has always been something I’ve loved and throughout my career I’ve enjoyed helping people feel confident in what they wear. When Topshop closed and I was made

redundant I saw an opportunity rather than the end of a chapter; I invested my redundancy into opening Renaissance Boutique – which is something I had always dreamed of doing. It was a big decision, but one I haven’t looked back on. Owning my own boutique has allowed me to create the kind of shopping experience I always believe customers deserve – personal, welcoming and centred around quality clothing.

Q: Tell us about your shop, the local area, you customers and their requirements? RK: We are based in the beautiful town of Tunbridge Wells, which has a fantastic community that really values independent businesses. We’re proud to offer something different from the high street, with carefully selected collections that focus on quality style and individuality. Our customers come to us because they want

something unique. They don’t want to wear the same clothes as everyone else, and they appreciate finding brands and styles that aren’t widely available. We welcome women of all ages

and love helping them build wardrobes that suit their lifestyle, whether they’re shopping for everyday wear, holidays or special occasions.

Q: Do you have any famous customers? RK: We’re fortunate to have a wonderful and loyal customer base, and while we prefer to respect our customers’ privacy, we believe everyone should receive the same warm welcome and personal service. One of the things I love most about owning Renaissance Boutique

is building relationships with our customers. Many have been shopping with us for years, and it’s always a pleasure helping them find pieces that make them feel confident.

Q: Do you have an online shop or website, and do you use social networking for business? RK: Social media plays a huge role in our business. It’s a fantastic way to showcase our latest collections, styling ideas and new arrivals while staying connected with our customers.
