TECHNOLOGY IN ACTION ADVERTORIAL

Cirrus Research has new feature to shout about at Health & Safety North 2017

control critical process parameters in chemical, medical, manufacturing and power industries. All the mass flow or pressure controller¹s data, including: mass flow, volumetric flow, pressure, temperature, selected gas calibration, setpoint, and totalised flow can be output to a central PLC running a compatible automation protocol. Users may also change setpoint or gas selection, and issue other commands remotely. Now these capabilities are available in a Modbus intranet or internet environment, using the TCP/IP protocol.

oise monitoring specialists Cirrus Research have confirmed they will be exhibiting at this year’s

Health & Safety North event in Manchester, featuring its latest upgraded products including the doseBadge5. Delegates visiting Cirrus Research at K33 will be able to speak to the team of fully trained noise specialists who will be showcasing the latest Cirrus products, all designed and manufactured in the UK.

Key products that are being showcased this year include:

• The doseBadge5 Noise Dosimeter, ideal for measuring and assessing the noise exposure of mobile workers or anyone working in hazardous environments.

• Optimus Sound Level Meters, ideal for Noise at Work and Environmental Noise Measurements. • Cirrus SoundSign – noise activated warning signs. • REVO – Cirrus’ first vibration monitor, providing a simple and convenient way to measure, analyse and assess vibration data – ideal for assessing hard-arm or whole body vibration exposure.

The doseBadge5 has recently enjoyed a key upgrade to include, for the first time, the ability to perform scheduled monitoring. The new function allows automatic start and stop monitoring at pre-set times and is all achievable in just 4 steps:

1. Activating and configure via the NoiseTools software or the dBLink App for iOS and Android devices. 2. Set the start time, duration and end time. 3. Colleagues collect the doseBadge5 from the charging dock, attach to the shoulder and return it at the end of the day.

4. The data will be there waiting when the H&S manager returns and can be downloaded as normal from the doseBadge5 to generate any reports using the NoiseTools software.

“This is an excellent add-on to the doseBadge5” said Cirrus Marketing Manager James Tingay. “Not only does it

give real peace of mind for anyone who needs time away from their day to day job - either for training or holidays - but it is so simple to set up with no effort on anyone else’s part. “We will be able to demonstrate this new capability at H&S North as well as the rest of the Cirrus range.

Climate control in the food industry C

limate control of enclosures using water cooling is highly efficient, especially if there

is already a central cold water supply available in the production plant. The new Hygienic Design air/water heat exchangers from Rittal are ideally suited to the food industry, where hygiene standards are exceptionally stringent.

Hygiene is an absolute must in the food industry: machinery, plant and components must readily withstand daily cleaning with pressure washers and jet steam cleaners. All surfaces must also be easy to clean, and/or designed to prevent contaminants from adhering to them.

Use water cooling to dissipate heat

Liquid cooling of enclosures offers a number of benefits: Because water has a higher thermal capacity than air, liquid cooling can dissipate large quantities of heat. What’s more, industrial environments often already have a central cooling water supply available that can be used for enclosure cooling. All that’s left to do is to

mount suitable air/water heat exchangers on the enclosure. With Hygienic Design, it is particularly important that no air exchange takes place between the enclosure and the environment.

Rittal has revamped its air/water heat exchangers, and can now offer its clients in the food industry two variants of Hygienic Design. Air/water heat exchangers for wall mounting can supply cooling outputs of either 0.65 kW or 1.2 kW. The hygienic design reduces the risk of contamination in the food industry, thus helping to ensure product safety.

Modified design Rittal has modified the design of Hygienic Design in a number of respects.

For example, the attachment to the enclosure wall using threaded bolts and nuts has been designed so that the screw fastening is not visible from the outside.

that is suitable for integration within joystick hand-grips and other in-cab human-machine interfaces (HMI) in specialty off-highway vehicles. Designed by the Corporation’s brand family of Penny & Giles, the JC050 features a low under-panel depth of 23mm and return-to- center functionality over a range of ±37° roller travel. The new thumbwheel roller is rated for 3 million operating cycles thanks to the use of non-contacting, Hall-effect sensing technology. The JC050 roller benefits from a ‘pass through’ design for any liquid or dust contamination. Electronic robustness is assured by sealing of the internal electronics to a rating of IP67. To ensure safety is enhanced, the JC050’s dual-redundant electronic architecture is constructed using two power supplies and two sensing circuits, the outputs of which can be set to positive ramps, a combination of positive and negative ramps, or full voltage range over half travel from each sensor with constant output in the other half travel.
