HANDS-ON FRANCHISING

Safeclean

National franchise manager, Maria Hartnell on the cleaning company’s history and its current franchise off ering

What’s the franchise off ering and what does Safeclean do? Safeclean is the UK’s leading carpet and upholstery cleaning company for domestic and commercial customers. Safeclean franchisees have the opportunity to run their business as a sole trader, ‘man in a van’; or become a management franchise covering multiple territories. We recognise the enormous benefi ts of being part of a franchise, but also want to give our network the fl exibility and control to make their own business decisions.

What diff erentiates Safeclean from the competition? We’re backed by a global company (industry-leading furniture protection plan provider, Guardsman) that supports our established and strong brand and also the longevity of our network, let alone the actual franchise itself. Many of our

franchisees have been with us for over 20 – some even 30 – years, proving what a successful business model we have.

What qualities do you look for in a franchisee? What makes a successful franchisee?

Experience in a cleaning or even technical industry isn’t necessary, but what is essential is dedication and a passion to succeed. We are looking for people who are forward-thinking, ambitious and have great people skills to ensure our strong brand ethics shine through.

What investment is involved? Who would it suit? A Safeclean franchise requires an investment fee of £19,995 and working capital of approximately £10,000. We work closely with Franchise Finance to support you in securing any funding support required. It’s really important to us that the match is not only the right fi t for us as a franchisor, but it’s the right decision for you and your family. We have many father-son, husband- and-wife, family franchises that draw on the skills and knowledge of each person to build 20-year-plus businesses.

What training do you provide beforehand and what support on an ongoing basis? It’s imperative for us that come launch day, our franchisees feel confi dent and capable to go out there and grow a thriving business. That’s why we’ve developed an ever-evolving and comprehensive induction programme, based on feedback from previous franchisees. The induction programme includes everything from the technical know- how to become a carpet and upholstery technician, to business skills, marketing knowledge and one-to-one shadowing with a franchisee mentor. What we are especially proud of, however, is our ongoing training programme which is available to all franchisees throughout their agreement, free of charge and is fl exible to ensure their needs are met.

Mike Harris, founder of Oven Rescue, believes that the combination of carrying out a sterling service, hearing great customer feedback in person and being your own boss adds up to a winning combination for franchisees.

Oven Rescue

Mike says: At Oven Rescue, we can help you understand your balance between life and work, so that you can have control of your destiny, be your own boss and most importantly, have a happy life!

“With our training, there’s three key aspects: customer service, marketing you and your business and doing a great job so that your customers come back to you, time and time again.

“Oven rescue is rewarding in many ways but one key area I still fi nd on a daily basis, nine years after starting this business, is customer’s reactions to the actual fi nished job. The ovens in

themselves are just ovens! But the satisfaction of turning an oven from not being able to see through the glass to (the customer) being blown away by the results is amazing.”

Oven Rescue franchisees Nichola and Claire (left) are in no doubt that they made the right choice. “The reason we chose, and love working for, Oven Rescue is that it gives us freedom. So, we can work two days one week, four days another week or seven days the next week. We can literally control our own diary, work around the children or any social activities that we choose to do as well.

“Since we’ve started on our own, anytime we’ve encountered a

diffi culty, we’ve been able to pick up the phone to Mike particularly where we’ve had a situation where, for instance, we can’t take (an oven) door apart or if we can’t get the electrics back on, he’s been able to explain how to go about it. He’s always just a call away.”
