We had to navigate lockdowns, increased hygiene standards, and shifting consumer behaviours. As gyms reopened, people became more conscious of their health and safety, which meant an increased focus on cleanliness and member care. In 2024, the UK fitness industry


is worth £5.9billion, serving an audience of 10.7 million- plus members, with a 15.9% penetration rate… all of which continue to grow each year.


How business is going so far and challenges faced The business is going well. Launching our Anytime Fitness club was an exciting experience, and also it was also a learning curve. The first challenge was managing the initial setup, from finding the right location to overseeing the build-out of the gym. The next challenge was


to build a membership base. There are a lot of fitness options available, so standing out and communicating our unique value is essential. Thankfully, the strength of the Anytime Fitness brand, combined with our commitment to delivering a welcoming, community- focused environment, has helped us grow steadily.


Training and support One of the best things about being an Anytime Fitness franchisee is the comprehensive support provided. From the outset, the training has been thorough. Before opening our gym, we participated in a franchise training program that covered everything from daily operations to sales strategies and marketing best practices. They also provide ongoing support, whether it’s through regular check-ins from our franchise performance coaches, marketing assistance, or the network of other franchisees who are always willing to share insights and advice.

Advice and insights for prospective franchisees in the fitness industry To anyone considering a franchise in the fitness industry, our biggest piece of advice is to be prepared for hard work but know that it’s incredibly rewarding. You’ll need to be dedicated, and passionate about fitness. It’s also crucial to understand your local market and what will attract and retain members. On a practical level, having


strong business acumen and people skills is essential. This is a people-focused business, and your ability to build relationships with your members, staff, and the community can make or break your success.


How running our own business has changed our life Running our own Anytime Fitness gym has been transformative. Running your own business brings a whole new level of responsibility, but also freedom. We now control our own destiny, and there’s a great sense of pride and fulfilment in knowing that the success of the business is a direct result of our efforts. It has also allowed us


to strike a better balance between work and life. We work hard, but have more flexibility in how we manage time – invaluable for our personal lives.
