YOUNG ENTREPRENEURS Off to a soaring start… Meet Roger and Louise McLaughlin, Home Instead's youngest franchisees R
oger McLaughlin's experience with Home Instead pre- dates his position as a franchisee, working
in an operations role for a group of Home Instead franchises in Scotland. Working his way up to group COO, he fell in love with the brand’s values; particularly its relationship-led care, which sees clients receive support at home from a care professional they develop a long-lasting bond with. Working as a radiographer, Louise had regular contact with elderly people and saw the challenges, such as mobility issues, that many of them face. The pair were keen to go about
an exciting business venture and felt that a franchise was the best route. They found Home Instead’s principles easy to buy into and were impressed by the support it offers franchisees, including business management, compliance, marketing and so much more. Speaking to the franchise team, Roger and Louise learnt more about the company’s award-winning care and were keen to offer it themselves. And given that Home Instead has more CQC Outstanding ratings than any other home care company, they already saw something they could work towards! Undergoing a week-long
induction at Home Instead UK’s national office, Roger and Louise were immersed in the company’s standards and culture, standing them in excellent stead to become successful franchise owners. Meeting people from across the 70-strong national office team who provide support to franchisees, the pair were in a great position to begin looking

for clients and care professionals to establish their business. In just two years, Roger and Louise's franchise grew to around 35 care professionals who collectively deliver around 1,400 hours of care a month to over 100 ageing adults. In fact, Home Instead Belfast is the area’s highest-rated home care company on homecare.
co.uk, the sector’s official reviews website, with a 10/10 reviews score; something very few of its competitors achieve.
“Do something you’re passionate about!”
In a short space of time, Roger
and Louise have cemented themselves in the Northern Ireland business community. This is demonstrated by Louise being highly commended in the Belfast Telegraph Business Awards. The judges were wowed by Louise’s proactivity when it comes to motivating their team of care professionals, not least by organising regular team building activities and recognising outstanding performance.
Louise says: “My recognition in
the Belfast Telegraph Business Awards was such a proud moment. It’s taken a lot of hard work and looking at the successful business we have grown and sustained, I can confidently say that it was worth it. “It was a huge jump going
from being employed to running my own business. But we both enjoy being our own boss and the work-life balance it provides is particularly crucial having become parents since we came on board with Home Instead!” Roger says: “My advice to
any aspiring franchisee of my generation would be to do something you feel passionate about. Louise and I have experiences of grandparents requiring care. We know that it can be a distressing time and that’s why we are so determined to make it smooth for families looking for the best support for their loved ones. With further territories available across Northern Ireland, we look forward to welcoming some new neighbours!”
